Our History

German Farmers Mutual Protective Association

1859

Established in Woodville, Ohio, to provide protection for local farmers and families against fire.

German Farmers Mutual Protective Cyclone Association & German Farmers Mutual Protective Fire Association

1909

The German Farmers Mutual Protective Cyclone Association was incorporated in Woodville to address weather-related (wind and tornadic) losses.

Woodville Mutual

1960

The two associations consolidated, forming Woodville Mutual Insurance Association. This allowed mutual members to purchase one policy to insure against what we now consider traditional policy perils (fire, wind, lightning, etc.).

1859 Mutual

2024

Woodville Mutual rebranded as 1859 Mutual, marking a new era that honors and celebrates its founding year. At the same time, Pike Mutual merged into the company, uniting two longstanding Ohio insurers under one name.

Present

With over $2 billion of property at risk and an expanding force of independent agencies across Ohio, 1859 Mutual continues its time-honored commitment to protecting policyholders and supporting local communities.
